Colleen and Matt. These two. A perfect example of why the old excuse “we’re not good in front of the camera” is something I never believe when people try to throw it at me. My job as a photographer is to bring out the real, true, 100% you and there’s no room for excuses when it comes to who you are. Whether it’s second nature for you to pose in front of a camera orrr you literally break out in hives at the mention of a photoshoot (not naming any names here!), you are you and my goal is to always portray the best version of yourself. I’ve known Colleen & Matt since middle school, so meeting up for their Old Town Alexandria engagement session was the greatest reunion. I’m pretty sure the last time I saw these two was at least 10 years ago back when we were all awkward middle schoolers just trying to figure out how to fit in, how to keep our lockers clean, and what new outfit from Hollister we wanted to wear. Colleen & Matt started dating in high school after being friends and growing up in the same neighborhood for several years. Fun fact! Matt has a twin sister and she’s one of Colleen’s best friends so they’re about to be sisters too! So precious.
According to Colleen, Matt is goofy, kind, and hardworking. Matt says Colleen has a great work ethic, is thoughtful, and can always make him laugh. I love how they each described each other basically the same way! Together, they have dreams of starting a family and seeing the world. We explored Old Town Alexandria for their engagement session on a spring Saturday afternoon just before sunset. The private alleyways, the cobblestone streets, and the Potomac River made for the best time and if it weren’t for the cold temperatures, I could’ve kept shooting for hours. Old Town Alexandria has historic charm, unexpected hustle and bustle, some touristy spots, and a city feel too. And the riverfront views are too good to pass up. Can I shoot all my engagement sessions here? I love these photos and I’m sooo pumped for Colleen and Matt’s wedding in just a few weeks. Enjoyyy.
I loooove the combo of her leather jacket + the silk dress. Beautiful session!
