Amsterdam is one of my favorite cities in the world! In the summer of 2014, I visited this floating city for a weekend during my study abroad semester. I was pleasantly surprised at all that Amsterdam had to offer. The quirky alleyways, hundreds of canals, and thousands of bikes in this city left me knowing I had to come back and visit again one day. This past February was that chance! My best friend and I planned a two-week Europe tour through 4 cities with Amsterdam as stop number one. We stayed at a very unique spot called Botel, which is a hotel on a boat! Perfect for Amsterdam’s water theme. During our 3 days in Amsterdam, we did a lot of the typical touristy things: renting bikes, eating Dutch pancakes, riding the ferry, and getting lost in the canals. I got to photograph Ariana and Brennen’s engagement portraits and they invited us to a fun poetry and open mic night the next day. However, my favorite part by far was all the great food we ate! Here are a few of the spots we loved:
Burgers and Betterballs from Vegan Junk Food Bar
Banana bread at Brrood right outside of our botel
Moak for sweet American pancakes
Pancakes! Amsterdam for savory Dutch pancakes
Chai lattes and breakfast at Greenwoods
I was worried about being in northern Europe during the winter, but Amsterdam gave us some great weather overall. There was just one mishap of a day where we got caught in a cold rainstorm on our bikes for over an hour! Other than that unforgettable and somewhat miserable adventure, I thoroughly enjoyed everything about visiting Amsterdam again!
