On an idyllic October Saturday, Carissa and Bob welcomed me into their close circle of loved ones for their intimate wedding at the National Cathedral and Imperfecto in DC. Carissa inquired with me about her wedding just two months prior through another photographer’s referral. During our first phone call, Carissa shared her background in and passion for architecture. She mentioned her love for Washington DC as it’s where she and Bob have established much of their relationship. But, most of all, Carissa expressed her desire to have an unforced, intimate wedding that reflects their urban lifestyles and strong love. And their intimate wedding at the National Cathedral was exactly that!
Their intimate fall wedding began at The Lyle in Dupont Circle, a boutique hotel inspired by 1940s Art Deco. Carissa and the ladies made their preparations while dancing and laughing in one hotel suite. Bob and the men gathered, toasted, and watched a game in another. The pair shared a sweet and giggly first look and a glass of Veuve Clicquot outside of the hotel. Afterward, all of the family were bussed off to the ceremony site, The National Cathedral. With their good friend officiating, the two shared vows, listened to hand-picked readings from their family members, and officially became married!
The rest of the afternoon included trips to The Lincoln Memorial and The Kennedy Center for more photographs and exploring. The night concluded at Imperfecto DC, a modern dining experience that intersects Mediterranean & Latin American cultures. During the intimate reception, everyone greeted the newlyweds with sparklers and cocktails before mingling a bit. The two shared a first dance as well as dances with their mother and father. Following a cake cutting, everyone gathered for heartfelt speeches and toasts before enjoying a relaxed four-course meal.
Intimate autumn weddings in Washington, D.C. can be such a lovely experience. DC is known for its beautiful architecture and historic landmarks, and the fall season brings cool temperatures and colorful leaves. You can’t get much more picturesque than that! The National Cathedral and other iconic buildings provide an elegant and monumental backdrop. The smaller guest list makes for a more personal and memorable experience, allowing for ample one-on-one time. Seasonal food and drinks, like warm cocktails and comfort foods, add to the cozy and festive atmosphere as well.
