It’s been a whole month of having this awesome girl as my intern and I’m SO pumped to share more about her! Sabrina applied to my internship program thanks to our mutual friend Michelle and she has been such a perfect fit to the team. She’s helpful, funny, hard-working, and very eager to learn more about weddings, photography, and running a business. I actually learned a lot about her myself from these questions she answered so enjoy reading about Sabrina 🙂 See her beautiful photography work here and read other blog posts about my past interns here!
Tell us a little bit about yourself and where you are in life right now.
I am currently a third year student at Georgia Tech studying Business Administration (concentration in IT Management, minor in computing). I have a wide variety of interests and skills so I am definitely still figuring out the top version of my specific career goals!
Where are you from?
I was born in Georgia and I’ve lived here my entire life, but my dad is originally from Kaohsiung, Taiwan and my mom is from Shanghai.
What attracted you to apply for this internship?
After reading the qualifications and responsibilities for the internship, I thought it sounded perfect for me and I did not hesitate to apply. In addition to always trying to grow as a photographer, I am always open to connecting with other creatives and learning how to manage and run a business. Kiyah’s photos are incredible, and you can tell how dedicated she is to her business and her clients, which is very inspiring. Also, it’s so cool that she’s a Georgia Tech alum!
What do you love about photography?
My parents did a really good job capturing moments from my childhood, and I love flipping through photo albums and reminiscing about old times with my family. Beginning with a Fujifilm digital (waterproof!) camera and later a Canon Rebel XS, I have been carrying a camera around for as long as I can remember. I love photography because it is a fun outlet to express your creativity, but at the same time it is always challenging to continuously improve and get better at the craft.
What are you passionate about?
Animals: I always find a way to help or spend time with animals! I currently volunteer weekly at the Atlanta Humane Society. Growing up, I volunteered on a farm in exchange for horseback riding lessons. I also have a little dog named Muffin who I love very much!
Sustainability: I read An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore in 4th grade, and 10-year-old Sabrina became the biggest environmentalist. I think it’s so important that as a society, we figure out how to meet our needs without compromising the ability of future generations to do so – which is essentially the definition of sustainability. And I think the little changes we can make in our lives really do make a difference (using reusable cups/bags, recycling, carpooling, etc.)
What are some small things that make your day better?
Making someone smile, laughing with friends until our chests hurt… I like climbing trees and sitting up in high places. I like eating healthy foods and I like sunshine and running through grass, barefoot 🙂
What’s the last adventure you went on?
I try to add a little bit of adventure into everyday! But the last big adventure I went on was visiting Prague and Vienna over winter break with my parents. It was their first time going to Europe, so it was exciting being able to explore two new cities with them.
What is your favorite book?
This is hard because I read a lot of books! Two books that I’ve read recently that I really like are:
Pachinko – Min Jin Lee
Small Great Things – Jodi Picoult
And some that I’ve loved for a long long time are:
The Glass Castle – Jeannette Walls
Into the Wild – Jon Krakauer
What is your ice cream flavor?
Stracciatella! I also love the cake batter/cheesecake flavors from Cold Stone!
What is something that few people know about you?
I played piano for 13 years, and I performed Mozart Concerto No. 20 in D Minor accompanied by a full orchestra when I was 18!
What three things would you do on a “me” day?
I would do something active (rock climbing or hiking), read a book, and try a new restaurant.
What are you excited about in the next 12 months?
I am honestly so excited for the next two months of this internship. I know I will learn so much (I already have and it’s only just begun!), and I am also excited to be helping out at the weddings!
Are you a morning person or night owl?
Night owl — Early morning cross country practices in high school taught me how to get up early and get the day going, but I am really just more productive at night. If it were up to me I would stay up late and sleep in!
If you were given $100 and you had to spend it on yourself, how would you spend it?
I would either buy something nice for my mom (spa day?) or I would save it and use it to travel!
